Date of Service: Jul. 12, 2018

OAKLEY – Edith Gay Wells, age 81, passed away peacefully at Cassia Regional Hospital on Thursday, July 5, 2018.

She was born April 28, 1937, in Albion, Idaho, to Andrew George and Maggie Lorraine Dayley Shangle. Due to the untimely death of her mother and father, she was raised and later adopted by Vern and Ida Heiner of Oakley. Edith Gay received and completed her education in Oakley. She married William Howard Wells on August 11, 1955, in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Idaho LDS Temple on March 4, 1964.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was proud of her pioneer heritage. Edith blessed the lives of friends and family with her many talents. She loved family history, quilting, crocheting, embroidery work, and oil painting. She grew large gardens and she raised beautiful flowers; however, her greatest love was her family.

In her later years, she enjoyed spending winters in St. George, Utah, where she would go antiquing, attend various yard sales and spend countless hours quilting with her sister, Alta. She also loved singing in the choir and the time she spent with her husband, Bill, doing temple work.

Edith Gay’s surviving family includes her six children, Kelly (Darlene) Wells of Oakley, Richard (Marsha) Wells of Buhl, Sandy (Chris) Poulton and Lenard (Tiffany) Wells of Oakley, Alice (Dean) Reno of Paul, and Billie (Guy) Tolman of Hansen; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Oakley Stake Center, 355 N. Center. Burial will be in Oakley Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday, preceding the service at the church.
