Norman Eugene McMurray

Apr. 17, 1929 - Mar. 22, 2018

Date of Service: Mar. 30, 2018

OAKLEY – Norman Eugene McMurray, an 88-year-old resident of Oakley, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, at his home.

He was born April 17, 1929, to Hyrum Eugene and Erba Lillian Collins McMurray. He was married to his sweetheart Sally Matthews for 61 years.

Norm grew up in Oakley, but raised his family and made his living in Southern California. He served his country for four years as a member of the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. He spent 35 years as a dispatcher and accountant for Gulf Oil Company. Norm loved the outdoors and when he was not working, he could be found camping, fishing, or spending time at the beach with his family. Norm and Sally retired and moved back to the Oakley Valley in 1998 where they lovingly restored the “Rock House.” He knew all things about Oakley, and if anyone had a question of its history or the people, Norm usually had the answer!

He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in various callings.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; his mother and father-in-law; and a brother and sister-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Sally; daughters, Leesa (David) Heredia of California, and Heather (Ron) Clark of Arizona. His joy was multiplied when nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren came along. The grandchildren will forever cherish the funny stories grandpa shared and they will be re-told for generations to come. He will be sorely missed by his wonderful sisters and brothers-in-law, Deanne Manning, Scott Matthews, Mary and Darrell Behunin, Tina and Brent Searle, Mabel and Marshall Queen, and Doug Hall. His many nieces and nephews will greatly miss “Unc.”

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Oakley Stake Center, 355 N. Center Ave., in Oakley. Burial will be in Oakley Cemetery where military rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Friday preceding the service at the church.

Our family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Norm’s many care givers including Dr. James Spackman and staff, and the Infusion Clinic at Cassia Regional Medical Center. We wish to thank Harrison’s Hope hospice for their kind and loving compassion. We are indebted to family and the kind people of Oakley for their unwavering service, compassion, and genuine love.

Sweetheart, Dad, Grandpa, Unc, and dear friend, we will miss you greatly. The world is a little dimmer without your light in it.
