Marcia Rose Toomey

Jul. 19, 1929 - Jul. 16, 2018

Date of Service: Aug. 1, 2018

BURLEY – Marcia Rose Toomey, an 88-year-old resident of Burley, died Monday, July 16, 2018, at Highland Estates Assisted Living Home.

She was born July 19, 1929, in Dillon, Montana, the daughter of Harold Monroe and Mary Fern Morrison Warner. She graduated from Beaverhead County High School in Dillon, Montana, in 1947, and subsequently attended Montana State Normal College and BYU-Provo, finally completing her bachelor’s degree in home economics from Utah State Agricultural College in 1951. She met her husband, Joseph Eldon Toomey, while teaching home economics in Nephi, Utah. They were married on May 31, 1953 in Dillon, Montana. They were sealed two days later, on June 2, in the Idaho Falls Idaho LDS Temple.

Marcia was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, including Relief Society president several times. She served two full-time missions - working mainly in family history centers - first to Chicago, Illinois, and then in North Carolina. Upon returning, she served at the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, Utah, teaching family history.

Marcia and her husband, Joseph, raised their seven children in Lompoc, California, and then Ridgecrest, California. After their divorce, she lived with several of her children - ending up with her daughter, Rebecca, in Burley; however, she and Joseph remained friends until her death. Marcia loved family history and even wrote a user's guide for the PAF Genealogy program that was used for several years at the MTC. She also loved baking and sewing and was very accomplished at both. She was an amazing and supportive mother of seven active children and kept busy running them to sports events, play practices, scouts, and church activities. She loved the Savior and instilled that faith and love in her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her but leaves behind many precious and cherished memories.

She is survived by her husband (divorced), Joseph Eldon Toomey of Burley; children, Rebecca (Jeff) Harris of Burley, Ronald (Mimi) of Monticello, Utah, Donald (Cindy) of West Jordan, Utah, Paul (Debbie) of Mission Viejo, California, Harold (Holly) of McKinney, Texas, and Robert (Jana) of Maple Valley, Washington; 29 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joseph (Jerry) Eldon Toomey, Jr.; two sisters, Mary Dawn Cuff and Erma Louise Cordon; a brother, Robert Morrison Warner; and one grandson, Benjamin McKay Harris.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Star 2nd Ward, 200 West 100 South of Burley, with Bishop Bruce Bean officiating. Burial will be in Pella Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, preceding the service at the church.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
