BURLEY – Michael Brian Sorth, a 69-year-old resident of Burley, passed away at home on Friday, March 2, 2018.

Mike was born in Yreka, California, located near the Oregon border in Northern California, on October 10, 1948, the son of Alburtus D. Sorth and Beatrice Luttrell Sorth. He went to Evergreen Elementary, Jackson Street Middle School, and Yreka High School, graduating the class of 1967. He then went to the College of the Siskiyous in Weed, California, but came short of graduation by three credits; after some years went by, he returned to the College of Siskiyous and received an Associate of Science in Fire Sciences and Rescue Technology in 1998. Mike married his only real girlfriend (he had other friends that were girls, but no girlfriends) Vanessa Trazzare, at the Odd Fellows Hall in Yreka, Calif., March 28, 1987.

Mike put his education to work and became a firefighter with the US Forest Service. He enjoyed his career fighting fire for many years. In the off season he worked as a dishwasher for local restaurants.

As a member of the United Methodist Church, Mike was in the choir and always had a blast at choir rehearsals.

Surviving Mike is the love of his life, Vanessa; his two sons, Nicholas A.C. Sorth of Jerome, and E. Gabriel M. Sorth of Richmond, Calif.; his stepchildren, Tammy D. Millard of Kansas, Judeith Edwina Lydia Littlefield of Pennsylvania, and Justina G. Trazzare of New York; his sister, Jennifer Dee Sorth of Sana Monica, Calif.; and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carol Lee McAmis; and step-daughter, Cindy Cathryn.

A memorial service will be held in Mike’s honor at 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, at the Burley United Methodist Church, 450 E. 27th St., in Burley, with the Reverend D. Scott Allen officiating.

Final arrangements have been placed in the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.

Mike will be greatly missed by many!
