Shawn R. Thacker

Apr. 9, 1966 - Sep. 27, 2018

Date of Service: Oct. 3, 2018

HAZELTON – Shawn R. Thacker, a 52-year-old Hazelton resident, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at 4:15 p.m. after a long battle with cancer. Shawn died at his home surrounded by friends and family members.

Shawn was born April 9, 1966, in Provo, Utah, to Jay R. and Valerie Teresa Jones Thacker. He was the cutest blonde-headed, blue-eyed boy, and knew how to melt hearts. He never talked back, but told you what he knew you wanted to hear, then did what he wanted to anyway. His older brother Bruce was so excited to have a little brother, and Shawn was born on Bruce’s fifth birthday. From the time he could walk, he was Bruce’s shadow. They didn’t go anywhere without the dogs or their guns or fishing poles. Shawn loved to hunt and fish; he loved his dogs, and he loved riding horses.

Shawn attended Minico High School, then transferred to Valley High in Hazelton, Idaho, where he graduated. He played football throughout his junior high and high school years, and was chosen his Senior year to participate in the Idaho Shriners All-Star football game. Shawn also earned his Eagle Scout Award that year.

When he grew out of tagging along with his brother, the best hunting and fishing buddies came along. Shawn married Amy Adams April 1, 1988, and they resided in Murtaugh, Idaho. They were blessed with three of the cutest little boys, and a beautiful little girl. Now he had his own little shadows who loved to tag along whether he was hunting, fishing, or driving the tractor. He loved his kids, and was so proud of each one of them.

Shawn and Amy were later divorced and he moved to Malta, Idaho to farm for East Valley Cattle. During this time he met Teresa Kampman. They were married on December 17, 2014, and moved to Hazelton, Idaho where he worked for Grant & Hagan, Inc. She was such a blessing in Shawn’s life. She was supportive, compassionate, patient, and loving. We are all so grateful for her love of Shawn and his family, and for the constant care she gave to him during this illness.

Shawn worked hard for as long as his body would let him; his work ethic wouldn’t let him stop. He was a great friend, a loving husband, a cherished son, an awesome brother, and an amazing father. One thing everyone knew about Shawn, was that you were guaranteed to laugh when you were around him. He kept his addicting sense of humor to the end.

Shawn is survived by his wife, Teresa; his parents, Jay and Valerie; his brothers, Bruce, Paul, and Justin; his sisters, Lisa, Teresa, Elizabeth, and Jennifer; his sons, Jordan, Jace, Taylor, and step-son, Chase; his daughters, Savannah, and step-daughter, Hailey; and his grandchildren, Ellie, Kenzlie, and Braylee

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Murtaugh Church, located at 23709 Hwy. 30, in Murtaugh. Burial will follow at the Hazelton Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday preceding the service at the church.
