Shawn Paul Borden

Sep. 28, 1967 - Oct. 4, 2020

Date of Service: Oct. 30, 2020

HEYBURN – Our brother, Shawn Paul Borden, left this earth Sunday night, October 4, 2020, sooner than we planned. We knew Shawn did not have much time, but we believed it would not be this soon or this fast. Shawn’s sister, Diana, and his brother, Aaron, were with him as he passed….something we will always be thankful for.

Shawn was born in Burley, Idaho, to James R Borden and Caroel Borden on September 28, 1967. Shawn was supposed to graduate from Minico High School in 1985, but decided to quit school. Four years later, Shawn went back to Minico and graduated in 1989. He really enjoyed being the older student at school.

Shawn went into the roofing industry during the prime of his life, and he excelled at what he did. Inspectors knew the minute they saw him at the job site that his work was done right. It was something he was extremely proud of. When the economy went bad, Shawn went to truck driving school and obtained his CDL. Shawn enjoyed driving truck and worked for Handy Truck Lines as a truck driver until his illness would no longer allow it.

Shawn loved weightlifting. His hard work gave him a muscular body that he maintained until his diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma. Shawn also loved detailing his truck and would spend hours making it shine.

When Shawn was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, he was told he would probably only live two years. Shawn lived six years and amazed everyone on how long he was able to survive this terrible cancer. When you would see Shawn, he really looked good. But on the inside, there was a fight going on with this terrible sickness. We will never understand the pain and suffering our brother went through. Shawn tried hard to keep all of us from knowing just how hard it was. During the last couple years of his illness, Shawn spent time with his nephew, Antonio. We are thankful that Antonio was able to be there for Shawn.

Shawn mentioned often that he would have given anything to be able to work like he used to do. He hated going on disability, and he continued to work a little even after he did. Shawn did not want to have hospice come in the last few months of his life. He was independent and took care of himself until the end. We are happy that Shawn was able to do this.

Shawn had no idea how many people’s lives he touched. He kept to himself most of the time. We have been amazed at the people who have reached out to let us know how much they liked him.

Shawn is survived by his sisters, Diana (Jim) Little of Rupert, and Chareen (Bob) Snelson of Boise; his brothers, Aaron (Sandy) Johnson of Fort Morgan, Colorado, and Neal (Wendy) Johnson of Coeur d’Alene; his nephews, Antonio Ortiz and Adan Ortiz of Rupert, Jeremy Viveros of Boise, and Kasey Johnson of Rupert; and his nieces, Celeste Pitz of Jerome, Tanya Huff of Boise, and Amy Hernandez of Germany.

Shawn was preceded in death by his father, James R Borden, and his sister Arlene.

We would like to thank the staff at St Luke’s Mountain State Cancer Center for the excellent care they gave to Shawn for the past six years. We know he had favorites during his time there. We may not know your name, but we appreciate everything you did.

We would like to thank Clay Handy and the staff at Handy Truck Line for keeping Shawn busy even after he could not drive anymore. Clay would never let Shawn quit, and Shawn would always go back and work if he felt good enough.

We would like to thank Julie Gumm for being the best landlord Shawn ever had. He valued your friendship and talked highly of you. Your thoughtfulness means more to us than you will ever know.

For anyone else who helped Shawn during his illness, thank you. Until we see you again…we love you, Shawn.

The family will have a graveside service at the Rupert Cemetery on October 30, 2020, at 2:00 pm. Shawn’s ashes will be buried next to our father whom he loved very much. Anyone who wants to join our family at the cemetery is welcome. There will be a gathering afterward at Doc’s Pizza in Rupert at 3:00 pm to celebrate Shawn’s life. Anyone who wants to join our family at Doc’s is also welcome.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
