Vaughn Dale Church

Jun. 29, 1936 - Mar. 29, 2021

Date of Service: Apr. 7, 2021

FOUNTAIN, COLORADO – Vaughn Dale Church was born June 29, 1936, to Lloyd F. and Myrtle Maude Cannady Church, in Dodge City, Kansas. As a young lad, he learned about working hard. He farmed in Kansas, served four years in the Air Force, and owned a dry cleaning business in Utah. Vaughn trained and bred race horses for nearly 30 years before retiring and driving a semi truck locally in the Colorado Springs area. He officially retired in 2003, when he moved to the country with a couple of his kids. However, he could always be found checking the field, mowing the weeds, working on equipment, or driving around the farm. Once in a while, you might catch him watching an old western or sitting out on his front porch.

He had a love for animals, especially his horses, dogs, and cats; you can bet his animals were always fed before he would sit to eat. He also loved country dancing, watching football, riding motorcycles, and taking the boat out.

Vaughn was a fun-loving guy who didn’t know a stranger and was always willing to help. He had many friends and loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Myrtle; his wife, Lila Bean; two sons, Layne, and Chad; one grandson, Wyatt Bench; one great-grandson, Javen Church; and one brother, Carroll.

He is survived by his four sons, Cliff (Teresa), Lloyd (Tammy), Cary (Denise), and Cody (Kasey); his daughter, Connie Whatley (Shana); 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, a niece; a great nephew; and many who adopted him as a dad or PaPa. Vaughn lived life to the fullest.

He passed peacefully at Baptist Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, on Monday, March 29, 2021, at the age of 84, with loved ones around him.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where a visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Following the service, he will be buried next to the love of his life, Lila, at Pleasant View Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group.

On Friday, May 21, at 4 p.m., a celebration of Vaughn’s life will take place at Giodone’s Italian Restaurant, 23344 E. Hwy. 50, Pueblo, Colo., for family and friends.
