Isabel Marie Martinez

Mar. 18, 1931 - Apr. 1, 2021

Date of Service: Apr. 10, 2021

BURLEY – On Thursday evening, April 1, 2021, at the age of 90, Isabel Marie Arguello Martinez, lovingly and affectionately known as Grandma Bell, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 18, 1931, in Monero, New Mexico, the daughter of Jose Filogonio and Beatrice Alcon Arguello. The family later moved to Rapid City, S.D. She met Jose Napoleon Martinez Sr. and they became husband and wife on Dec. 26, 1956, in Butte, Mont. This union was blessed with three children, Jose Napoleon Martinez Jr. of Rupert, and Lillie Cruz and Lorrie McCarty both of Burley. She enjoyed being a grandmother to five grandchildren, Misty (Henry) Muñoz, Shawndell Martinez, Jennifer McCarty, Heather Martinez, and Malcolm McCarty; and simply adored her great-grandchildren, Emilio Cruz-Polanco, Yasmeen Cruz, Koneisha Ray, Iziah Cole, Izabel Muñoz, Ethan Cole, Aspen Ray, Abigail Muñoz, Nevaeh Cole, Mercedes Castillo, Mattison Cole, Takiya Cole, Jessy Sauceda, Bailey Martinez, and J.J. Martinez; and great-great-grandchildren - who will be born this year.

Isabel enjoyed listening, dancing, and singing to music of every genre. She was not your average 90 year old; she had more spunk and sass than ladies half her age. She certainly kept all of us on our toes with her laughter and jokes.

In addition to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she is survived by a sister, Mary Martinez of Washington State; and one brother, David Arguello. She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepmother, Grace; her husband of 41 years; and six brothers, Louis Arguello, Alejandro “Alex” Arguello, Joseph Arguello, Policarpio “Poli/Polly” Arguello, Alcario “Al” Arguello, and Filogonio “Philly” Arguello Jr.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation to registered nurse, Shalise Bowers and to Intermountain Homecare & Hospice for their loving care during her final days. Grandma Bell had a special little friend, Traysen Smith, who always made sure to brighten her days with his cute little waves on his way to and from school - thank you, Traysen, for being her bright and shining star.

A viewing will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, April 9, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church, 1601 Oakley Ave., in Burley, with the Rev. Father Eladio Vieyra as celebrant. Burial will be in Paul Cemetery.
