Agnes Lorraine Barnes

May 7, 1937 - Jun. 30, 2021

Date of Service: Jul. 6, 2021

OREM, UTAH - Agnes Lorraine Barnes passed away peacefully on June 30, 2021, at the Orem Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing facility in Orem, Utah, after an extended illness.

Lorraine was born May 7, 1937, in Heyburn, Idaho, to Leona and Irvin Craythorn, who were local farmers. She was the third of eight children and oldest daughter of those eight children. She attended high school at Declo High School. As she grew older she became more skilled in cooking and sewing. She even took a correspondence course at Idaho State University in cooking while she was a school cook in Marsh Valley School District. She became such a good seamstress that she was able to make her children’s own clothes for them to wear every day.

When she was around 19 years old she served a stake service mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she remained a dedicated and valuable member of the Church throughout her life. She was known to be giving and helping to those around her. Her children have fond memories of taking their own vegetables from their own gardens to give to their neighbors. She was a hard worker and participated with the rest of her family in taking care of the local Marsh Center Cemetery, mowing the lawn and caring for the property.

On June 9, 1959, she married the love of her life, Wayne Barnes, in the Logan Utah Temple. They met in front of a JCPenny and from there their love story is history. They were married for 42 years until Wayne passed away from complications following a stroke in 2001.

She is survived by three children, Lori (David) of Springville, Utah, Cory (LaRaine) of Prossor, Washington, and Alesia of Payson, Utah; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Kenneth (Renon) of Heyburn, Idaho, and Earl (Barbara) of Rigby, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Barbara, and Nadine; three brothers; Edmund, William, and David; an infant daughter, Susan; daughter, Shirleen; and grandson, Justin.

A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon, Tuesday, July 6, at the Marsh Center Cemetery in Arimo.

A viewing will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the graveside service, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Garden Creek Ward, located at 286 Henderson Ave., in Arimo.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
